Get the most recent on iPhone/iPad innovation: Ipads Advisor

Earlier this year, one of the best computer RPGs of perpetuity, Baldur’s Gate, pertained to the Mac and iOS. And it was an amazing, remarkable, amazing port, with tons of improved material and a brand-new iPad-friendly control scheme.

Even better? Baldur’s Gate: Improved Edition did well enough that the people who handled the port, Beamdog, stated they were working on a port of Baldur’s Gate II … a game which (and this is saying something) is about 10 times better than Baldur’s Gate!

Fast forward to today. Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition has actually been pulled from all e-tailers, including the App Establishment. Why? Contractual crapulence.

Beamdog has actually simply updated their site with this entirely depressing note:

We just recently eliminated Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition from sale on Beamdog and the Apple App Establishment. We’ve actually taken this action at our publishing partner’s demand as we try to deal with a variety of contractual issues.

Unfortunately, up until this matter is dealt with, we’re unable to release the current Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Version patch or Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition for Android.

This also prevents the launch of Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Version. I seriously ask forgiveness to the series’ fans and assure we’re working diligently to remedy the situation.

It’s unclear exactly what these contractual concerns are, given that Beamdog was certified to port the Baldur’s Gate franchise. Finger’s crossed that this gets solved soon, because you understand what Beamdog was going to do if Baldur’s Gate II sold well? Make Baldur’s Gate III themselves!
